An easier way to explain the split gas ratio is that it is used to control the amount of sample that actually goes into the analytical column. So, if you have a ratio of 1:100, this means that for every 1 unit of sample injected, 100 unit of the sample is vented/wasted. This allows for less instrument maintenance, added cost saving due tolonger preservation of components such as your columns. But this also speaks to your detector sensitivity. The more sensitive your detector, generally means less sample needed for acurate results.
